Muay Boran
Muay Boran, meaning "ancient boxing," is a traditional Thai martial art that predates modern Muay Thai. Known for its diverse techniques, Muay Boran includes striking, joint locks, throws, and ground grappling, making it a comprehensive combat system. Originally developed for self-defense and military training, it features various regional styles, with Muay Chaiya being one of the most renowned.
During the 1920s and 1930s, King Rama VII introduced regulations to transform Muay Boran into the safer sport of Muay Thai, leading to a decline in traditional practices. However, Muay Boran has seen a resurgence due to its historical significance and effectiveness. Those who have watched the famous movie “Ong Bak” will see the lead actor Tony Jaa executing the beautiful Muay Boran techniques.
Alvin Seet, with his extensive experience and certification as a Muay Boran teacher under the Kru Muaythai Association, is a notable figure in promoting and teaching this ancient art. Through his expertise, he helps to keep the rich traditions of Muay Boran alive for future generations.
